Not a White Chritsmas, but a White Australia Day
I moved down south almost two weeks ago now, down near Clapham Junction, and although the first day was all a bit strange and I questioned whether id made the right decision, it has since been going really well. I now have a massive room where I actually have to get off my bed to walk to the other side which is a bit of a novelty; with plenty of space to my things and spread out. I am no longer living in a cramped shoebox, and I certainly feel more peaceful for it!
I am now a lodger, along with a 23 yr old Saffa called Elouise who is just lovely, in a really relaxed and friendly home where Clare and Dave, (the couple that own the place) offer us more glasses of wine than anyone could care for and are really chatty and great fun to be around. It turns out they loved just down the road in down town McGregor in the ACT back in the70’s so we have spent many times so far reminiscing and laughing about suburb names – they find ‘Bruce’ and Tuggeranong’ the funniest, and swimming at ‘big splash’ and ‘pine island’. Oh they were the days, back where there was plenty of year round sunshine……
Not that the weather has been too bad here lately, we even woke up to a beautiful blanket of snow last week, it covered houses, streets, cars and trains, I wasn’t expecting it at all so it came as a delightful surprise I must say. And miraculously my train was only delayed by a few minutes….I must have been one of the lucky few! Needless to say I took lots of photos but this annoying blogger site is so dam difficult to upload photos too, I doubt any of you will get to see them anytime soon! Every time I try it takes forever and then it doesn’t work anyway…………
Australia day went off at work, i missed the hottest 100, (very sad) but we finsihed at miday so all the aussies and the wanabe aussies could celebrate! Nice.
I’ve seen a few movies lately – ‘Marie Antoinette’, ‘Venus’ and ‘Bobby’ – all were reasonably good and worth seeing if you get the chance, and we are all going to a Burlesque bar next week for a friend’s birthday…which will be interesting to say the least.
Work is still as good as it gets, well maybe that’s an overstatement, but it suits me fine for now…..the annual pay rise should be heading my way anytime now, not that it will make much of a difference since transport prices almost doubled at the start of the new year, but alas, it’s a pay rise all the same!
I’m currently working hard on my holiday plans for the year…..nothing confirmed just yet, maybe the Canadian Rockies in June to see Mum and an Uncle and Aunt who will also be over there….and maybe to make friends with some big grizzly bears too, who knows. Maybe even Hawaii… and then Thailand and Bali on the way home….they are the hot favourites this week anyway!
